Best of Show AwardCongratulations to Sue Huggins Leopard whose LVIII broadside was chosen by our jurors and by opening reception audience votes to receive the Best of Show Award for Broadsided! Sue Leopard is a highly regarded artist whose handmade books and prints are widely exhibited and held in many public and private collections. Her work is known for connecting a sense of memory to myth and history through images and words by using her own wood engravings, relief prints, collages, and handwriting. She has a particular interest in 19th century poetry, which led to this work incorporating the poems of Emily Dickinson. This beautiful work comprises a suite of twelve letter press broadsides with poems by Dickinson produced in an edition of 20. Each broadside is 19 by 12 inches and includes a Dickinson poem with an accompanying solar plate etching created by the artist. The imagery that the artist has chosen includes textiles, birds nests, spiders, gravestones, old photographs, and more. They were printed on Magnani Pescia and Rives BFK papers. Each is numbered and signed by Ms. Leopard. They are housed in presentation boxes done by Julia Nitzsche in Japanese linen and lined with handmade paper. Please contact Laura for more information about the entire suite of Dickinson broadsides. |
