Rock music posters by Portland graphic artist Dan Stiles were featured at 23 Sandy Gallery in May. The solo show, Happy Accidents: Rock Posters by Dan Stiles hung May 3 through June 2, 2007.

For the last 13 years Dan Stiles has been creating rock posters for promoters, record labels, and bands from the Scissor Sisters to the New Pornographers to Cat Power. His hand-printed silk screen creations grace telephone poles and music venues across the region and have been featured in national design books and magazines.

Stiles’ distinctive design style is simple, fun and graphic. His printing techniques yield sumptuous, perfectly registered posters that belie their ephemeral nature. His poster work has won national design awards and even helped win prestigious accounts for his design firm, Stiles and Co. Stiles was recently selected to create identity packages for Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival and for PDX Pop Now! According to the Portland Mercury, “Dan Stiles is the local king of ants being set on fire and giant happy blob monsters with blood dripping down their chin.” Stiles posters will be featured in the April issue of GQ Magazine.

Based in Portland, Dan Stiles works with clients ranging from independent record labels to major corporations. His designs have won numerous awards and have been reproduced in a wide variety of books and magazines including Graphis, Print, Step, GQ, and design books from Rockport Press. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he received a B.A. from the University of Oregon and studied design at the California College of Art in San Francisco.
