Artist Statement
Paper conversations, letters, serve as a form of communication to connect with another person. The letters used in this piece, written by three generations of woman, share life events, daily rituals, emotions that were not always easily spoken in person and they mark the passage of time from one generation to the next. Tea signifies ritual, brewed and served as a way to pause and embrace daily life.
Paper Conversations (Ethel, Ursula, Marilyn) is based on original letters that have been photocopied and then a transparency created. Each transparency acts as a layer of history, then copied onto tea stained paper. Individual tea bags were dried, opened, ironed and alternated between the waxed letters.About this Book - In Between the Lines

In Between the Lines, allows each line to speak through a natural placement on the page, with equal importance given to the space in between. The piece feels as if it has finally settled into the essence of all the letters, finely shredded, with hints of words that hold fragility, vulnerability and at the same time a strength.
This piece is an extension of the original letters that have been photocopied and then a transparency created. The paper has been cut, shredded and reconfigured. Beeswax was applied to the entire surface. All images and text copyright the artist. All rights reserved.
