Paper conversations, letters, serve as a form of communication to connect with another person. The letters used in this piece, written by three generations of woman, share life events, daily rituals, emotions that were not always easily spoken in person and they mark the passage of time from one generation to the next. Tea signifies ritual, brewed and served as a way to pause and embrace daily life.Paper Conversations (Ethel, Ursula, Marilyn) is based on original letters that have been photocopied and then a transparency created. Each transparency acts as a layer of history, then copied onto tea stained paper. Individual tea bags were dried, opened, ironed and alternated between the waxed letters.
