Artist Statement
Siftings arose from my attempts to remind myself of my mother as she used to be. While she is still alive, she is much diminished both mentally and physically. It was not always so and I started to think of her when we were both younger. I was a child with a lot a problems growing up, hearing loss, low self esteem among others and my mother was the one who helped me rebuild myself into the person I became. I am very grateful to my mother for that and also just the way she led her own life. Many of these stories are ones that have been told and retold in the family for years. They are not often of momentous events but they are the stories that have persisted and added together they provide a clear view of that time of my life.
