I love the paintings of Edward Hopper and Giorgio de Chirico. In “Melancholy and Mystery of a Street,” de Chirico evokes a haunting, ominous dream world that is both foreboding and beautiful. Hopper’s famous “Nighthawks” allows us a voyeuristic glimpse of alienation and loneliness through a window. Both painters work convey a sense of isolation and a seductive beauty that have informed my work.
