Gallery History

23 Sandy Gallery was founded in April of 2007 and to date we have hosted 67 solo and group exhibitions. We started out with a single room gallery with just one show per month. Way back then we were just "exhibiting" photographers and book artists. Since then we have knocked out walls to create our "back room" gallery which has allowed us to exhibit addtional artists.

In 2008 we added flat flies and a glass book case that have allowed us to start representing artists and carry an inventory of artist books. We also started carrying an inventory of photographs and paintings.

In 2009 we started taking the show on the road. We now make a few sales trips each year to present artist books to museum and university library collections. Laura also lectures extensively and gives trunk shows during her travels as a way to expose new people to the beauty of artist books. It's been an amazing ride and we look forward to more!

A National Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Photography. Shelter explored architecture, habitat and sanctuary. Photographers from across the country and as far away as Isreal were challenged to explore how shelter can be interpreted visually given its myriad manifestations.

Letterpress Broadsides by Sandy Tilcock
Sandy Tilcock is a master letterpress printer based in Eugene. She has designed and printed letterpress broadsides featuring poetry by writers such as Barry Lopez, Robert Bly, William Stafford and Terry Tempest Williams.

This exhibit featured a mini-retrospective of Ravenpress editions by Denver artist Alicia Bailey. Ravenpress books are known for their use of contemporary structures based on historical models, erotic content and miniature scale.
