Artist Statement

José Betancourt and Susan Weil have been collaborating on alternative photographic techniques since 2000. Although the Cyanotype is their primary technique, Betancourt and Weil have also worked with Photograms and Van Dyke Brown prints. Their collaborative work can range from personal and autobiographical collage to their latest project that uses negative space to help the viewer construct images of Blueprint Trees. The prints entered into Resurrection are from a limited edition portfolio published under the title Reflections.

Artist Biography

Susan Weil is a national and international artist from New York City. Her first Cyanotypes can be dated back to the early 1950s. Susan is represented by Sundaram Tagore Gallery in New York. José Betancourt is Professor of Art and Art History at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. José has been working with alternative photographic processes for almost 20 years and has given workshops on his techniques.
