Artist Statement
My artwork addresses photography. While not all of my work is made in the darkroom, my art grows out of a darkroom practice.
An Aquagram® is made with a camera-less process in the darkroom, using photographic paper, light, and chemicals for development. The image in the photograph is a byproduct of its creation, representing both the process and the endpoint in it’s creation.
For me, the Aquagram® resonates with the darkroom and insists upon a particular kind of photography where time and silence must be spent looking down into a body of water, waiting for an image to appear, suspended in a space where the distance between eternity and an instant seems quite short.Artist Biography
Chip McDaniel completed his MFA at the Otis College of Fine Art and Design in Los Angeles. He lives and works in Venice, CA.
