Artist Statement

This photogrpah was made in my darkroom and printed on semi-mat fiber based papers in order to take the best advantage of the gold toning process. I experimented with pre-application of pure gold chloride to the high lights prior to immersion in the Nelsons Gold Toner to see if this might result in a more intense color shift in specific areas of the print that I wanted to stand out.

Artist Biography

I am a 21st century photographer, working with mid 20th century equipment with a 19th century aesthetic. I took up photography in 2003 after a 25 year absence. I picked up where I left off and worked backwards trying to emulate the work of pioneering photographers like Eugene Atget and Karl Blossfeldt.
