When thinking about this show I kept returning to the idea of accessibility and inaccessibility. A secret is often something to which we desire access but are denied. A lie is a way of protecting a secret (or something we feel to be secret – maybe it’s not as secret as we think).
Like blocking a river, though, denying access to something frequently causes a new route to be created around the obstacle. Maybe a better route, one we never would have found otherwise.
So, if we deny the usual mode of interaction we have with books, will we develop new paths of access to the secrets they contain?Artist Biography
Warren Buss was born in Cleveland, Ohio, some years ago. He received a B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College. After being a database programmer for just long enough, he began studying bookmaking at Oregon College of Art & Craft. He currently resides in Beaverton, Oregon, with his family.
