Making art and feeling the force of language has been an irrepressible part of my life since childhood. I work nontraditionally in a variety of mediums––canvas, paper, textiles, paint, found objects and photography––to express my ideas in artist’s books, paintings, and constructions. I also regard the classes I teach as an art form, as they’re often a platform for artistic interaction and process.
My art explores combinations of both the sensory and the intellectual, intuitively addressing concerns such as the look and sound of language, the physicality of craft, the personal in relation to the universal, visual metaphor, and aspects of scale. I make art in direct response to nature, to personal and world events, and as an inquiry and study of art history.
