I Am Already is a 48 page, visible poetry book that is meant to be given to someone else whose name is to be written into the dedication page. It consists of three couplets written in syllabic verse with a special emphasis on the last line. Each line of poetry is revealed cept by cept, with each cept maintaining its linear relation to the couplet’s line structure but advancing incrementally down the page on 24 recto pages. In the Deluxe version the “show through” quality designed into the handmade papers allows the reader to see through the current page to a hint of the next cept on the following page. The last printed page contains a colophon for each version and the book’s number is followed by a signature.
Back Story: This poem was originally the text of a card for my wife as part of a going away present. At the time her career demanded a significant amount of travel and I wanted to acknowledge her absence. Over time I thought others might have a similar situation where they might want to do the same and over the period of a week I turned it into a book project that I decided to edition.Artist Biography
Craig Jobson has transformed 20 professional years of visual communications into a passion for the book arts. In 2001, after two years of studying the private press movement in late 19th century Great Britain, he founded Lark Sparrow Press—a private press dedicated to publishing limited fine press editions of contemporary fiction and poetry.
