Expressing myself in words (published poems in numerous magazines & Third Coast: Michigan Poetry anthology) led me to handset letterpress printing, designing books, binding, papermaking, drawing, painting, sculpting, teaching (including Nigeria)... at Alma College, Alma, Michigan. BOOKS led me to Philly!
My work continues to be a poetic exploration in 2-D and 3-D, wading into problems called “art” and finding my way out. I use found materials and a WIDE array of techniques and tools to express my ideas through painting, printmaking, and Book Arts. Books are my LOVE, and I share that passion with all of my students.
“Lick Me” is the most damaging book I’ve ever created -- causing the loss of three treasured friendships. It stemmed from one of the friend’s innocent question... and my unfortunate truth telling response...
Artist Biography
Mark Wangberg exhibits in Philadelphia area and oversees Jack In the Box Press since 1972. Collaborative book with David Gillespie, Colophon of Conversation, is in 500 Handmade Books. MFA, Book Arts & Printmaking, The University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Hedi Kyle, special mentor! Lives, teaches art / book arts around Philly.
