Artist Statement
The wrenching obscurity I have encountered since moving away from a beloved community two years ago and the resulting angst, irritation, boredom, frustration and loneliness have been key elements into the making of these three pieces.
Whisper is a haiku I wrote while wandering the streets and avoiding puddles. The poem is revealed…or not…depending on the effortless movement of air. One can choose to explore the words as a whole, or bit by bit.
Liminality came from utterly falling in love with a word. The book revealed itself as the word and my new world was explored.
27 Tears/She who Soars are phrases and words that were spoken to me and by me in the most complex time of my life. Has it been cathartic? Will now new liminals be revealed from which to step through….into yet a deeper realm?Artist Biography
Born in the Palouse Hills of Eastern Washington from Pioneer stock, ds has been passionate about art and the application of words all her life. Her dream-come-true gallery owner career was foreshortened by an essential move to Portland, Oregon. What now does living here present? Only time will tell.
