Artist Statement

“Above the Garden” is a digitally reproduced book printed on Saunders cold press paper. It folds out accordion style and binds together with 2 end pieces that insert into the folded book ends. It can be displayed in a circular manner with one end piece in or pulled out straight. Image size is 7.5” x 24.5“.

I did these images after a landscape design I did with an Italian garden. The book is about the symbolism’s that are in reference to the garden and the female influence.

Artist Biography

My name is Cindy Hansen, I live in Woody Creek, Colorado. I run Treedogpress in Woody Creek, where I do etchings, monoprints, paintings, drawings, and bookbinding for my artist books.

I was formally educated at Cal State Long Beach, in Southern California. I studied Illustration, Biomedical illustration, and printmaking. I ran the Sulski Life drawing workshops and the 24hr drawing marathons, the funds raised went towards a scholarship in the art department at CSULB.

I then was a hard line illustrator for the L.A. Times and an art director for the Press Telegram, a Knight Ridder newspaper. I moved back to Aspen and worked for Aspen Magazine and the Aspen times. I rekindled my interest in printmaking in the mid 90’s and worked with Meg Ingraham in Golden, Clinton Kline in Boulder, then met Craig  O’Brien, O’Brien graphics in Aspen, where I did some part time assisting work with him. Currently I work in my Studio at Treedogpress where I do my paintings, artist books, and printmaking. I also teach classes in printmaking and bookbinding there.
