Artist Statement

I’m sure there are all sorts of nuanced and romantic ways of looking at sensuality that aren’t explicitly sexual, but in the end, for me, it all boils down to the way thoughts and experiences tug on that core knot of nerves between our legs. Maybe it’s just the way I’m wired or getting older or the way I happen to be feeling right this moment that keeps me from blushing or feeling a rebel for saying it. Instead of beating around the bush, so to speak, this piece is pretty straight forward. I love the way the slightest motion causes it to vibrate on the pin – an unexpected treat I discovered after it was assembled. It’s the second in a series of works with titles inspired by the catalog cards from the Pendleton Public Library that were discarded when the building was transformed into an arts center in 1998. I’m slowly working my way through the “The (A) Book of…” titles. BSO (Book shaped object) Reclaimed pages with new case binding.

Artist Biography

Roberta Lavadour lives and works at the foothills of the Blue Mountains of Eastern Oregon. She’s been recognized with several awards and received an Oregon Arts Commission/NEA Visual Artist Fellowship in 2001. Her artist’s books are published under the Mission Creek Press imprint, blank journals under the Desultory Press imprint.
