Assimilating and expressing life experiences through the book and its many formats and variations has been the focus of my book works for many years. I dreamed up “Walk the Dogz” while walking our three dogs during a period when my husband, who is the official dog-walker, was on a business trip. I focused on the sensory perceptions of both beasts and human since it was totally dark at that time in the morning, and incorporated those aspects touching on that experience: wild animals, birds, dog treats in the form of a homemade dog bone and its recipe, collars and leash clips, doggish hair binding cloth, the dogs in a photograph, a trail of footsteps, and the thoughts of the human printed letterpress across the top of the work and of the dogs across the bottom. All of this was woven into an accordion-folded single piece of Arches paper, cut and folded into a box at the end to hold the bone and recipe with a folded lip to provide 3-dimensional trees, pop-up garage and barn, and slots to show movable birds and wild animals. Arches paper, cloth, metal, rubber stamp, photograph, cut-outs, dog bone; 20 x 26 cm (folds out to 60 cm) Edition of 10.
