Florida’s Creatures

In 2008, I was invited to be a guest artist producing works on a reproduction of an 18th century hand press. The first piece I produced was a hand-bound book about some of Florida’s threatened and endangered animals. This book was a result of a unique cover paper find, a love of carving the linoleum blocks, and the opportunity to print blocks on a hand press. It was my intent to produce a piece that would captivate the viewer by capturing the personality of each of the creatures chosen. With the recent oil spill in the gulf, and the subsequent deaths of some of the creatures depicted, this book has become an intimate but powerful reminder of what will be lost.

Hand bound, dated, signed, 10 hand carved linoleum block book plates printed on an 18th century reproduction hand press, handmade papers, vellum, leather lace, water-based inks, glass cabochons. 26 pages. 11.25 x 6.25 x .75 inches. 2008. Edition of 8. $875
