The Daddy Stories

The story of incest is a common one in many cultures, though it has remained invisible until recent years. In this book, I use the dress image as a stand-in for the children involved in incest—although not all these children are girls, this book is about female victims. When I was a child I was afraid of the dark, afraid that 'something' would come and get me during the night. Fortunately, nothing ever did come and get me. But for the anonymous children commemorated in this book, 'something' did come and get them, and that 'something' was Daddy. I know the The Daddy Stories are true stories even though I do not know who these particular victims are.

Everything in my books is always made by hand. I use the simple and direct processes of collage, drawing, painting, writing, stamping, and sewing.

Accordion structure. Collage, sewing, drawing, painting, mixed media. 12 pages. 5 x 7 inches. 2004. Unique. $500
