Thirty Mile Radius

For the first time in 20 years there is a proposed amendment to the clean air act that will impose more strict regulations on electric generating power plants. Of interest is the closing the loopholes that pre-1970 coal-burning power plants are currently operating under, allowing them to emit higher levels of airborne pollutants. Thirty Mile Radius is the distance within which the maximum effects of the smokestack plume are expected to occur. The implications of human health and environmental degradation have been documented, solutions have been proposed. We must move toward sustainable alternatives and encourage a melioristic attitude supported by action. Text derived from Clean Air Task Force and U.S. E.P.A.
