I chose to focus, not on the freehand scrawls throughout the city, but the skillfully executed stenciled graffiti. Each day I walked the city with my camera, seeking these unexpected artistic signposts. I decided to record these images in a book small enough to hold in your hand yet broad enough to give you the big picture of a city now free after centuries of oppression. |

Artist BiographyLee Steiner is a native Texan. She is a book artist and hand papermaker who enjoys combining ancient and traditional book formats with modern and re-purposed materials. A fan of anything ‘paper,’ Lee reads books, writes books, and teaches the book arts in Houston at the Museum of Printing History. Lee finds inspiration both in her travels and in her own home. |
