Chuño

Chuño tells a story about the historic origins potatoes as a valuable food and economic resource.  After returning from a trip to the Sacred Valley area of Peru in 2007, I used my photographs to create a series of tapestry-like canvases with digitally manipulated imagery. I then photographed the tapestries and those images were integrated with my text and different photographs from the trip. To give the book a mildly dug from the earth look, I made a burlap “potato sack” to house the book and toned the pages with bronze colored pigments and walnut ink.

80 page codex sewn over tapes with cloth over board covers. Pigment digital prints on Inkpress Duo Matte Paper toned with pigments and polyester fabric covers. Images and text by Mary Taylor. Presented in a burlap sack. 7.5 x 5.25 x 1 inches. 2008. Edition of 5.
