Journey Home

A visual diary documenting a repeated journey made by the artist over a five-month period between London Waterloo station and Ryde Pier, Isle of Wight to visit her family. Although a sense of routine is omnipresent—with recurring images linking all the journeys together, each one is a unique, individual experience. As the seasons change, the passing scenery beyond the window seems to disappear as autumn approaches and we begin to focus upon her fellow passengers, the ghostly reflections in the window and the fleeting illuminated station platforms. The work was originally conceived as a photographic installation with each ‘train’ following a time line, staggered on the wall to illustrate the varying departure and arrival times.
