The Girl and God

This book was inspired by my studies of South Texas Catholicism and the treatment of women therein. The images can be read as the confession of a woman’s guilt to God over an out-of-wedlock pregnancy, or alternatively, as a metaphor for women forced to be the lay-keepers of the Faith in society. The choice is the readers. The Girl and God book was distilled from a series of cyanotype prints created by John Watson. The photographs of Krys were made in an 18th century mission church in Goliad, Texas. The design of the book and the selection of images was the result of John Watson and Kim Vogel brainstorming the project.

Ink jet printing on Arches watercolor paper, oak cover, brass hinges. 5.25 x 4.875 x 1.125 inches. Opens out to 64 inches. 2009. Unique book.
