FlameGuard

I was intrigued by Edith Lambert's dream, FlameGuard, she wrote as a poem and read to me on the phone. I immediately recognized the exotic and haunting metaphor for loneliness as the content for the dream. I asked her if I could create a shadowbox book using FlameGuard as the content to be hand printed on a two color proofing press in Singapore.

I was working in China on a series of manufactured books and had used the proofing press and remembered its capacity for registration. I paper engineered the spreads from Deborah Edward's eerie interpretations of the text from sketches. I scanned and produced the book on a Mac. I made hand cut prototypes for Madam Wong's hand assembly group in Johor Baru, Malaysia. I find it alluring and a meditation of quiet solitude. I used handmade paper from Bali for the cover wrap.

C1S white Carolina paper, scanned and printed art on a 2-color proofing press, handmade Balinese paper cover. 18 pages. 8.25 x 7.25 x 1 inches. Edition of 200.

$200
