Artist Statement

The artist books emanate from a true love of books. The tangible and visual experience of opening a book is a constant source of desire. The construction of a book employs collaboration between raw materials, visual textures, multiple techniques and a sentiment that sets in motion the direction a form will take. Each book is created as a unique.

The books emerge from a disparate pile of found materials: cast off books from the 1800's to contemporary, street detritus, cardboard, informational leaflets, and other mixed media items. From this, pages are sized and the collage/painting process begins. Primarily focused on visual texture, color and composition, threads of storyline appear in unexpected ways. The books are quite tactile and are meant to be opened and experienced.

Artist Biography

Born and raised in Iowa, Linda moved to southern California in 1975. There she received a BFA in Ceramics from Long Beach State. A slow migration northward produced an MFA in Textile Design from University of California, Davis, and lastly, a move to Portland. Here, she continues her studio work, as painter, sculptor and book artist.

Her work is in private and public collections including UCLA Fine Art Library and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
